School uniforms for RNM pupils

Representatives of the Department of Education, teachers, parents and councillors attended the event.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) recently handed over school uniforms to a number of pupils from different schools at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.

According to the municipality, the programme is done annually where the mayor’s office selects schools and in those schools the teachers identify the children from needy families who will benefit.

“The selection of children rotates every year to try to benefit different schools, since the budget does not allow all of them to benefit in one year. Each child received a complete uniform including shoes, a scientific calculator, Maths set, an English dictionary and a USB for those who are in high school,” said the municipality, adding that each school also received four boxes of sanitary towels.

It added that representatives of the Department of Education, teachers, parents and councillors attended the event.
RNM said Vodacom was also present at the event and gave a talk on programmes such as e-schooling and e-learning; adding that Vodacom also gave gifts to the teachers who attended the event.

RNM mayor, Sikhumbuzo Mqadi and all the speakers of the day highlighted the importance of learning.
The Department of Education and its teachers were also thanked for doing their work diligently although the conditions in other schools are not good due to the economic situation and the poverty in the country.
