Rider joins professional biking team
'Nxumalo’s story is certainly an inspiring one.'
KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture has congratulated Unathi Nxumalo for being signed UCI registered professional mountain biking team, Pump for Peace.
The Department said it was fantastic seeing that Nxumalo has been signed, adding that the he will join Faranak Partoazar from Iran and Tumelo Makae from Lesotho as the new riders in the team.
It added that part of the team’s goals is to help its riders become leaders and to inspire their communities to dream big, saying that Nxumalo’s story is certainly an inspiring one.
“The 20-year-old who is also part of the Elite Athlete Development and Scholarship Programmes funded by the department has been involved in the KZN Cycling Development Trust programme for over five years, and through hard work and dedication has been able to achieve on a regular basis, culminating in selection for the SA team to compete at the UCI MTB XCO World Championships and now to be signed as a professional rider. Everyone involved with Nxumalo is so happy to see this success, and we wish him every success going forward,” said the department.
