Gamalakhe armed robber sentenced
The firearm used to rob the woman was stolen when the accused broke into a residence in Gamalakhe earlier that month.
The Ezinqoleni Regional Court recently sentenced Bongumusa Nene to 15 years imprisonment for aggravated robbery.
Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, said Nene was also sentenced to three years for house breaking and an additional 15 years for possession of a firearm, adding that the sentences are to run concurrently.
Mpinge said Nene’s sentencing came after an incident that happened in December 2021.
“A woman was walking home at about 11am on December 31, 2021 in Qinabout, Gamalakhe when an unknown man pointed a firearm at her. He demanded cash which she did not have and robbed her of her two cellphones and fled. A case of aggravated robbery was opened for investigation at SAPS Gamalakhe. A suspect was traced through cellphone records and police arrested the 25-year-old Nene,” said Mpinge, adding that Nene made several appearances in court and was recently sentenced in the Ezinqoleni Regional Court.
Captain Mpinge added that the firearm used to rob the woman was stolen when the accused broke into a residence in Gamalakhe earlier that month.
“The investigating officer in the matter was Detective Sergeant Grant Phehlukwayo of Gamalakhe Detective Service,” said Mpinge.
