Careers Day to host former chief justice
Former pupils of Sihle High School in Malangeni, Umzinto decided to embark on the initiative as a way of giving back to the community.
Former chief justice in the Constitutional Court of South Africa, Sandile Ngcobo, will be the main speaker at the Careers Day organised by former pupils of Sihle High School in Malangeni, Umzinto.
The initiative will be held on April 29 at the Sezela Cricket Ground.
According to one of the organisers, Zakhele Nyuswa, the former pupils decided to embark on the initiative as a way of giving back to the community.
Nyuswa said, the former chief justice will be the main speaker, adding that stakeholders such as the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), South African Institute of Engineering and Environmental Geologists (SAIEG), Department of Higher Education and Training, Cedara College of Agriculture, Esayidi TVET College and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, among others.
“With the generous support of Sezela Canegrowers Association as the main sponsor, the objectives of the Careers Day are to motivate and inspire the learners to strive towards academic excellence against all odds, to inform them about admission requirements for entry into various courses of study at universities and TVET Colleges, to inform them about the requirements and supporting documents required for applications for financial assistance in the form of bursaries, scholarships and study loans, to expose the learners to a range of careers they can pursue after Grade 12 to assist them to make informed career choice decisions leading to increased chances of absorption into the labour market/opening up of own businesses, to warn them about the threat posed by social ills that can derail their success, and to facilitate their applications for smart ID cards with the Department of Home Affairs,” said Nyuswa.
He added that the objective is to also give pupils hope and a belief that regardless of where they come from, they can achieve anything in life as long as they are willing to pay the price, which is hard work, focus, commitment, dedication and a determination to succeed against all odds
Nyuswa said professionals, artisans and technicians will advise pupils about fields such as medical and health sciences; law, accounting, auditing, economic and management sciences; education, human and social sciences; agriculture, forestry, engineering and natural sciences; tourism, hospitality, entertainment, fashion design and sports; ICT, media, communication and marketing; banking and financial services; military, police and corrections; entrepreneurship and innovation; technical and vocational education.
“These professionals will also inform them about admission requirements for entry into various courses of study at universities and TVET Colleges, admissions and funding,” said Nyuswa.
