Man arrested for illegal firearm

A 40-year-old man was arrested after his residence was searched, resulting in the recovery of a firearm and ammunition.

Ezinqoleni SAPS recently arrested a 40-year-old man in Bandlana ward in Izingolweni on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, said in the ongoing battle against the increase in illegal firearms, members of SAPS Ezinqoleni and Highway Patrol conducted an operation at Bandlana ward in Ezinqoleni.

“A 40-year-old man was arrested after his residence was searched, resulting in the recovery of a firearm and ammunition. He recently appeared in the Ezinqoleni Magistrate’s Court,” said Mpinge, adding that the firearm will be sent for ballistic testing, to determine if it was used in the commission of other crimes.
