Smith and Smuts put Dolphins on brink of victory

Corbin Bosch and Junior Dala were dismissed for ten and a duck respectively as Smuts and Subrayen both bagged another wicket.

A crucial 82 from Jason Smith and five for 67 from Jon-Jon Smuts helped the Hollywoodbets Dolphins put themselves on the verge of victory against the Momentum Multiply Titans at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Tuesday.

Smith and Andile Phehlukwayo continued the Dolphins innings on the third morning at Kingsmead and the pair added 43 runs in the first session which took the Dolphins close to the Titans first innings score.
Phehlukwayo was the first wicket to fall when he was caught on the reverse sweep for 18. With six wickets down the Dolphins were thirteen runs away from erasing the first innings deficit.

Smuts joined Smith and the two experienced players took the Dolphins past the Titans first innings score and with 62 runs between them they took the Dolphins to the verge of lunch.
Unfortunately for the home side, Smith lost his wicket on the cusp of the break when he was bowled by Smangaliso Nhlebela for a well-played and patient 82.

At lunch the Dolphins had extended their lead to 49 with three wickets in hand.
Smuts contributed a vital 42 towards the back-end of the innings along with Prenelan Subrayen who scored ten and Thando Ntini who added 19 which saw the Dolphins finish on 253 all out, with a lead of 88.
The Dolphins then put the Titans under immediate pressure with the ball as they restricted the visitors to 28 for four in their second innings.
It was the spin combination of Subrayen and Smuts who accounted for the first four wickets to fall with Smuts picking up three and Subrayen bagging one.

Neil Brand and Donavon Ferriera then put on 56 runs for the fifth wicket as the latter scored a quick-fire 39. It was Subrayen who ended his stay at the crease when he was bowled going for a slog sweep.
Corbin Bosch and Junior Dala were dismissed for ten and a duck respectively as Smuts and Subrayen both bagged another wicket.
Brand at the other end went to a half century but was run out for 50 as the Titans innings fell apart following his departure.
Smangaliso Nhlebela and Aya Gqamane were both dismissed with the total on 138 as the Dolphins wrapped up the Titans innings.
Smuts was the pick of the bowlers with five for 67 and then Subrayen backed up his seven first innings wickets with four in the second innings to finish with four for 45 and eleven for 97 in the match.

His career best seven for 52 in the first innings helped him pick up his second career ten wicket haul and a career best match haul of eleven for 97.
The Dolphins finished day three on five without loss and will need 46 runs to win the match on the fourth and final day on Wednesday.
