Richards Bay FC’s Mtolo dies
The former Uthongathi FC player had help Richards Bay FC attain DStv Premier Soccer League status and had only returned recently and playing to the 0-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs recently.
The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Amanda Bani-Mapena has sent condolences to the family, friends, teammates and the management of Richards Bay Football Club following the untimely death of one of the players, Siphamandla Mtolo, earlier on Tuesday last week.
“We are shocked and saddened by the passing of Sphamandla, one of the shining stars in the provincial football fraternity. Our prayers go to his family, friends, teammates and the management of Richards Bay FC. This is a terrible loss for football. Spepe, as he was affectionately known, was a terrific player who exploits at the defensive midfield was a class act to follow. Sithi nxeseni,” said Bani-Mapena.
She added that the 29-year-old defensive midfielder had only begun his journey in the South African top flight in 2023, after missing a huge chunk of the first half of the campaign through injury.
