Pressure on illegal firearm owners
Captain Mpinge said straws of crystal meth and cash were confiscated by police as evidence recently.
Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, said she is determined to increase the pressure on people who are in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Nxamagele was speaking after a police operation was conducted by members of SAPS Port Shepstone K9, Public Order Police and SAPS Harding recently.
According to Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, police members were patrolling just before midnight recently when they came across a Mazda CX5 parked off in Mazakhele area.
Mpinge said after a search was done, a home-made revolver was found as well as ammunition and drugs, adding that a 33-year-old man was arrested and charged for possession of drugs and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“A 29-year-old man was arrested after information was received of illegal firearms. Members proceeded to Kwezi Ward where a search was conducted and one .38 revolver was found on the suspect, concealed in his pants. A search was done of the residence and a home-made shotgun, 9mm pistol as well as live shotgun rounds, live 9mm rounds and .38 live rounds were found. He was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and unlicensed ammunition,” said Mpinge, adding that members thereafter proceeded to Peterson Street where a 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs.
Mpinge added that straws of crystal meth and cash were confiscated by police as evidence, saying that he will appear in court on a charge of dealing in drugs.
