Three life sentences for repeat criminal

Dayi was out on parole for murder when he committed the rape on a 14-year-old child in August 2018.

The Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced Sikhona Dayi (36) to serve three life sentences.

According to Margate police spokesperson, Sergeant Sibu Ncane, Dayi was out on parole for murder when he raped a 14-year-old child in August 2018 in Californica area in KwaNzimakwe.

“He has a previous record for housebreaking, theft and possession of drugs. He threatened to kill the 14-year-old if she spoke out after he forced her into the bushes on three occasions where he raped her. The accused was arrested by Port Edward police members shortly after the victim reported the rape to police and has been in police custody since. The investigating officer who took over the case was Detective Constable Thembile Sengane of the Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS),” said Ncane.
