Lad makes waves at Gagasi FM

The 21-year-old is urging South Coasters to head to the Gagasi FM Facebook page to like his audition video.

Aspiring radio personality Siphokuhle Luthuli of Banana Beach (Melville) needs your help in his quest to be Gagasi FM’s rising star.

Luthuli is one of top five young people who have been shortlisted in the Gagasi FM Rising Star presenter search competition.

The 21-year-old is urging South Coasters to head to the Gagasi FM Facebook page to like his audition video.
He said every like is a vote, adding that voting lines close on August 11.

He explained that he could not believe it when he received the news that he was shortlisted.
On Tuesday this week, Luthuli got a chance to co-host The Lift Off on Gagasi FM with Njabs Zwane and Wendy Ntshangase.

“I did not believe I was shortlisted because I did not trust the audition video I had initially sent. From being part of the over 1000 entrants to being in the top five, I was really excited and I saw that from here, there is no turning back. The reception I received when I arrived at the Gagasi FM studios, the experience of broadcasting live from their commercial studios, it all still feels surreal,” he said.

He added that meeting people like Alex Mthiyane who made him fall in love with radio back in 2013 was the cherry on top.

“The experience of seeing and learning how a commercial radio station functions has also taught me that I must aim higher because of the way I was received. It shows that although we are not out there as yet, our work is being recognised and appreciated. With this competition, I do not aim to win. I have never aimed to win because sometimes when you aim to win, you shift away from the purpose of what you are doing because aside from winning, there is so much more happening at that particular time,” he said.

Before being shortlisted on Gagasi FM, Luthuli had previously told Fever that he also wants to venture into the world of radio broadcasting.

He was speaking to the publication after he bagged an acting gig on SABC 1’s Uzalo as Sibongiseni, Captain Mondli Mdlalose’s son.
