Man in court on drug charge
The man was also found in possession of a firearm and 65 live rounds of ammunition.
A 50-year-old man appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court after being found in possession of drugs worth R24 000.
He was found in possession of heroin capsules and mandax tablets, as well as a firearm and 65 live rounds of ammunition.
The Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said members from the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Crime Intelligence, Crime Prevention and the National Intervention Unit arrested the man for dealing in drugs, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live rounds of ammunition.
Mhlongo said members had received information about the man who was in possession of drugs in Durban. A joint operation was swiftly conducted and he was spotted boarding a taxi.
“They followed that taxi to the South Coast and it was intercepted near the Umkomaas off-ramp. The man tried to escape but was apprehended by police. He was charged and appeared in court recently,” he said.
