Cards up for thunee tournament

Thunee is a popular card game that originated in Durban.

Players who sign up for the upcoming thunee tournament at the Wild Coast Sun stand a chance to win a share of over R50 000 in cash.

Thunee is a popular card game that originated in Durban, said the organisers.
They added that it was invented by Indian indentured labourers who arrived in South Africa to work in the sugarcane fields.

“The game is named after the Tamil word for water. It is enjoyed by both, the younger and older generation among the Indian community. It is believed that there are variations to the game found in India and Mauritius,” they said.
The card game will start at the Wild Coast Sun on August 26 from 11am.

The entry fee is R500 per two-player team.
The entry closing date is August 19.
