Girl (8) found dead near river
Sinethemba Ngcece Sibiya had been missing from September 14 and was found dead on Friday, September 22.
Eight-year-old Sinethemba Ngcece Sibiya was buried on Saturday September 30, after she was found dead near a river in Mthwalume.
Sinethemba had been missing since September 14 and her body was found just over a week ago.
Port Shepstone police spokesperson Captain Petros Mpinge said the missing eight-year-old child was found near a river in Makhoso, Hibberdene.
Mpinge said no arrests have been made, adding that a murder case has been opened for investigation.
The area of Makhoso is under Umzumbe Municipality and the mayor, Bongani Nyuswa has condemned Sinethemba’s brutal murder.
Nyuswa said after Sinethemba’s disappearance was made public, search parties were launched. After she had been found there were suspicions that she had been raped.
She was a pupil at Makhoso Primary School.
“As the local government, we are saddened by this terrible act. Not long ago, our municipality was covered by a dark cloud of women being killed. It is very insulting when it happens to children. What is happening to our community? We hope the law will find the perpetrator. We will be happy as a municipality if he is found and punished severely so that this can be a lesson to others,” said Nyuswa.
He added: “We are asking the government, Amakhosi, all political parties and the community to help us fight the crime of killing of women and children in Umzumbe, especially in Mthwalume. As a municipality, we offer our condolences to the family, the school she attended and her friends. We will contact the family and help them wherever they need help.”
