Regional ANCWL elective conference fails
Speaking to Fever, delegates who did not want to be named said they believed that the elective conference was sabotaged by people who assumed that the conference outcome might work against them.
The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region failed to host its elective conference at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre recently.
Speaking to Fever, delegates who did not want to be named said they believed that the elective conference was sabotaged by people who assumed that the conference outcome might work against them.
As a result, there is currently no ANCWL structure in the Ugu district.
They said some delegates were behind Ray Nkonyeni Municipality councillor, Pinky Shange for the position of ANCWL regional secretary, while others were supporting the former mayor of Umuziwabantu Municipality, Dixie Nciki.
The sources added that they feel that the absence of a facilitator for the elective conference was sabotage in itself.
Outgoing ANCWL Tolomane Mnyayiza Regional Task Team convener, Dixie Nciki told Fever that their biggest problem when it came to preparing for the conference was lack of funding.
Nciki said the facilitator wanted payment upfront for facilitating the conference and they did not have the funds.
“We currently have no ANCWL structure in the region since our term ended. But we are hopeful that the provincial task team will come up with a solution,” said Nciki.
Meanwhile, the newly elected provincial ANCWL secretary Zama Sokhabase said the ANCWL Tolomane Mnyayiza regional elective conference failed because it was not well organised.
Sokhabase said they will use the ANCWL Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) members from the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region to communicate with their members.
However, ANCWL secretary-general, Nokuthula Nqaba, told Fever that the ANCWL PEC in KZN did not have the power to convene regional conferences as it is not a recognised provincial leadership structure.
Nqaba had previously released a statement on the disbandment of the newly elected provincial structure.
She said the NEC resolved to appoint a Provincial Task Team to fulfil the functions of the PEC in terms of Rule 11.2.4,” reads a letter dated August 31 – directed at Bheki Mtolo, the provincial secretary of the ANC.
In the new structure, Ugu District Municipality Chief Whip Matho Shozi is the coordinator, while KZN Cogta MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi is the convener.
Meanwhile, ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza regional spokesperson, Wendy Mqadi said she could not reveal how much was used for the ANCWL’s recent regional elective conference as there still needs to be an official meeting where a report on the conference needs to be given.
It remains unclear whether an ANCWL Regional Task Team will be appointed and when.
