Margate police spokesperson bags award

The former spokesperson of Margate Saps, Sergeant Sibu Ncane was among 60 employees who were recognised at the Saps KwaZulu-Natal Excellence Awards held at the Durban International Convention Centre recently.
Ncane recently joined the provincial Saps.

During the awards, he won the second-best administration of the year award under the category of levels 5 to 7.
A list of other Saps members from the Ugu District who were recognised at the excellence awards had not been received from the Ugu Saps communications department at the time of going to print.
However, the provincial Saps communication team said police officers and support staff members were awarded in various categories.

“The Sundumbili police station walked away with the Best Station of the Year Award for their excellent service to the community. Point Police Station was among the winners with their members edging Saps Newcastle and Saps Empangeni to claim the Visible Policing and Operations Team of the Year. Brigadier Vela Cele, the Detective Commander at the eThekwini District, won the Senior Manager of the Year Award for his role in leading District Teams that have attained notable successes in high-profile cases. Sergeant Msizi Mkhize of the Mountain Rise police station claimed the Detective and Forensic Employee of the Year Award,” read the statement.

It added: “Warrant Officer Sabelo Xaba from the Umlazi K9 Unit was awarded the Provincial Commissioner’s Special Award. The Woman of the Year Award went to Constable Mbalenhle Msomi from the Mpumalanga Police Station, while Reservist Constable Wonderboy Nkosi from Hluhluwe Police Station won the Reservist of the Year Award. The Community Policing Forum of the Year went to Mazizi Katamzi who served as the chairperson of Colenso Policing Forum during the corresponding period.”
