New date for Ugu festival

The Ultimate Ugu Festival which was set to be held at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on October 28 has been postponed.

The event will now be held on November 19 at the TB Molefe Stadium in Gamalakhe and it has added artists such as DJ Tira to the line-up.

According to the event organiser, Mxolisi Mhlongo, it was rescheduled due to fears of bad weather on the day.
Mhlongo said they also wanted more time to market the event which will feature local artists such as DJ Slwane, DJ Bruce, DJ 101 and DJ VK, who will be sharing the stage with big names such as Dlala Thukzin, Lwah Ndlunkulu and more.

He added that they changed the venue so that revellers don’t struggle with finding transport after the event.
Bongani Zakuza of The Ultimate Ugu Festival had told Fever that only local vendors will be selling their services on the day.

Zakuza said the idea of the event came after a national event organiser visited the South Coast, saying that he loved it so much he decided that he wanted to do something for local people.

“We generally have theme-based, genre-based and mostly significance (certain holidays) related events but this event has almost all the music genres in one. And none related to any significance so, for the first time everyone is being accommodated in one event. Gospel, Kwaito, Afro-House, Afro-pop, Maskandi and more. We have invited local vendors to come on board and they are the only ones selling on the day. Most of the service providers being engaged are local people such as security and so forth. Also, we have engaged some local artists,” said Zakuza.

He added that this will be an annual event, saying that is why the community needs to embrace it.

“We also give assurance that this is a special kind of event. We just want to assure festival goers that the event will be worthwhile and we are looking forward to hanging out with them,” he said.
