Health centre launches youth-friendly services
The PRO for the centre, Lifa Radebe said the launch was to ensure that the youth are roped in the fight against social ills such as teenage pregnancy and drug abuse.
The Gamalakhe Community Health Centre (CHC) recently launched a Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services programme in partnership with organisations such as Love Life, Broadrich and Dreams.
The health centre’s PRO Lifa Radebe said the launch was to ensure that the youth are roped in the fight against social ills such as teenage pregnancy and drug abuse.
Radebe said they started small by hosting learners from surrounding primary and high schools.
“The programme was very informative and interactive. It included talks on drug abuse and teenage pregnancy. The youth spoke out and agreed that these two issues are among some of their concerns. There was a pledge signed by all who attended to fight against these social ills. During an entertainment session they danced to win tokens,” said Radebe, adding that the programme will be held every Friday.
He added that a young girl was brave enough to talk about her journey of falling pregnant, having a child at a young age, and having to continue with her schooling.
Radebe said Gamalakhe CHC has also allocated a nurse for the programme who will not be judgemental, to prevent the youth from seeking help from bogus medical practitioners and institutions.
