Umzumbe pays for karatekas’ plane tickets
The championships took place in Tokyo, Japan from November 17 to 19.
Umzumbe Municipality recently held a send-off ceremony for karatekas in the municipality who participated in the 13th World Karate Tournament.
The championships took place in Tokyo, Japan from November 17 to 19.
Umzumbe Municipality’s mayor Bongani Nyuswa wished Senpai Ayanda Gwala, Mlungisi Mbizane, Sensei Kwanele Cele and Skhumbuzo Phehlukwayo all the best for the tournament.
Nyuswa explained that the municipality paid for the karatekas plane tickets.
“It’s an indescribable joy because South Africa is represented by participants from Umzumbe in this karate tournament, to compete against other countries. This encourages us as a council to continue with sports development programmes so that the people can benefit and earn a living through various sports,” said Nyuswa.
Meanwhile, Sensei Phehlukwayo said: “We are humbled and happy because of the mayor of Umzumbe Municipality and the council. We are grateful that they believe in us and the sport we play. We are also very grateful to our families who have been able to trust us with their children. We are very grateful to the mayor for the gifts that we were not expecting.”
