Long-serving police officers honoured

Service medals were awarded to members of the Saps within the Ugu District during a medal parade held at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Wednesday last week.

The medal ceremony was part of a parade led by Ugu cluster commander Major General Sethenya Nxamagele to award SAPS members in the district for their loyal and faithful service.

Long-serving men and women in blue were honoured for serving their communities with pride, honesty and integrity, and for having built a good reputation for themselves.

Reading the citations for the service medals, Captain Luvuyo Nomaqhiza said the SAPS’ 10-year service medal was awarded to members who have served for a period of at least 10 years, who have also displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct.

“With the 20-year and 30-year service medals, they serve as honourable tributes in recognition of prolonged loyal service rendered, the minister of police has awarded SAPS members with service medals for the respective time served with pride and honesty in the police service,” he said.

Gamalakhe’s Manqoba Zulu was one of the members who was happy to receive a 10-year service medal from Major General Nxamagele during the parade.

Meanwhile, SAPS members also received life lessons that would motivate them to continue within the police force loyally and diligently.

“Through these medals, we are maintaining a proud culture of ensuring that we instill pride and discipline in the police service. And through these medals, we are reminded of the families who are behind the SAPS members because they are the ones who have been supporting them throughout the years,” he said.

Also, families of long-serving SAPS members who are now deceased also attended the parade.
