Ugu hosts disability dialogue

The dialogue was held under the theme, Nothing About Us Without Us.

The Ugu District Disability Dialogue, held in Umuziwabantu Municipality recently, has been hailed as a resounding success.

The dialogue was held under the theme ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’.
During the engagement, issues discussed included the development of the disability sector by the government.

The day also featured presentations from various departments while discussing programmes that may promote the rights of people living with disabilities.

Mayor Siboniso Zungu raised concerns about the low participation of the disabled community in the local economy.

“It disappoints me that every time we advertise job opportunities in our community that we do not see disabled people benefiting and in the support programmes for businesses and cooperatives, where people with disabilities do not benefit. This worries us as the municipality because without a job or a way of making a living, it is difficult to improve their lives properly,” said Zungu.
