Be vigilant, urges Saps
Saps spokesperson Captain Adam Francis said criminals usually operate in gangs.
Police have appealed to the public to be vigilant and to not become a victim of crime.
Saps police spokesperson, Captain Adam Francis, said criminals operate in gangs. “They are con artists and usually very influential.”
He said they look professional and convincing, adding that females are also in cahoots with criminal gangs.
Francis urged people not to carry large amounts of cash and not to allow anyone to have any conversations in public places with people who claim they are members of Saps investigating a case.
Some tips:
* Don’t get distracted at the ATM.
* Don’t accept help from strangers at the ATM.
* Never follow strangers who tell you that a large amount of cash was found and it’s going to be shared or investigated.
* Don’t allow the elderly to leave home without someone accompanying them to do shopping or to collect their grants.
* Don’t talk to anyone about monies that will be deposited or withdrawn at a bank.
* Do report all criminal and suspicious behaviour to the Saps by contacting Crime Stop on 086 0010 111 or MYSAPS APP. You may ask to remain anonymous.
