Life sentence for child killer
A child's lifeless body was found by police dumped in a toilet.

Songezo Mpulampula was recently sentenced to life in prison for rape and murder.
Police spokesperson Captain Adam Francis said the life of a four-year-old child from Mazekhele in Harding was brutally ended after she was raped and killed in September.
Francis said the child’s body was dumped in a toilet and later found by police
“Harding detectives quickly followed up on information and assisted the lead detective, Sergeant Musa Mbanjwa to find the killer. Investigations led the team to Umzimkhulu where the 21-year-old suspect (Mpulampula) had fled to. He was arrested with the assistance of Umzimkhulu Detective Service on charges of rape and murder and appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court for sentencing recently. Mpulampula was handed down a life sentence on each charge. The sentences are to run concurrently and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Francis.
He added that the harsh sentence sends out a strong message that the law is uncompromising about crimes affecting women and especially children.
He said the SAPS remains committed to ensuring that thorough investigations by well-drained detectives will result in the maximum penalty for lawbreakers.
