Art opportunity for local photographer
The former Wesbury College of Science pupil obtained her diploma in photography at the Durban University of Technology in 2020, specialising in Portrait Photography.
Local photographer Aphiwe Moyo has been selected to be part of a four-month internship programme run by the Africa South Art Initiative.
The programme is funded by the Art Bank of South Africa.
The former Wesbury College of Science pupil obtained her diploma in photography at the Durban University of Technology in 2020, specialising in Portrait Photography.
Moyo is the owner and founder of Behind the Lens Photography, an aspiring business that was established in 2018 and has grown to different parts of the country such as KZN, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Northwest and Bloemfontein.
Among the projects Moyo has done include conceptualising a music video for a song titled ‘I’m that girl’ in March 2021 which later made an MTV Base premiere a month later.
In 2022, Moyo and Behind the Lens Photography were nominated for the fourth annual Sebenza Women Awards under the category ‘Sebenza Women Champion’.
She recently completed her 12-month internship at the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)
She said her experience at UKZN has exercised her potential as a creative, allowing her to become an international photographer, curator, and project and events coordinator among other things.
She added that through the internship she had the opportunity to photograph the 26th edition of the Time of the Writer Festival, the 44th edition of the Durban International Film Festival, the 27th edition of the Poetry Africa festival, and more.
Moyo said she has worked on several personal projects which have set the foundation for her career.
