Back-to-school campaign aims to help youth

A newly founded organisation, The Peasants (NPC) is embarking on an initiative to assist the youth with university applications, National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding, CV writing and late tertiary applications.
This forms part of the organisation’s back-to-school campaign. They will be at the KwaXaba Community Hall in Ward 27 on Saturday, January 13 and at Bhomela Masele creche in Ward 25 on Monday, January 14.
The Peasants will be in Ward 9 at the Gcilima Information Centre on Saturday, January 20. They will also be at the Ward 5 Community Hall on Sunday, January 21.
On Saturday, January 27, the organisation will head to the Izinqolweni old council chambers and on Sunday, January 28, they will be at the Oshabeni MPCC Hall in Ward 4.
The initiative starts at 10am at all venues.
According to one of the members of the organisation, Alwande Mbatha, The Peasants was founded in 2023 to foster positive change through economic growth, social welfare, and business leadership training.
“The Peasants (NPC) is not just an NGO. It is an action-driven community initiative dedicated to creating a lasting impact in the lives of local citizens across various demographics, ethnic backgrounds, and religious and social affiliations. Founded by a group of philanthropic visionaries, the organisation aims to address social ills hindering economic, social, personal, and business growth within communities,” said Mbatha.
He added that the organisation is dedicated to community welfare by serving the youth and elders through education initiatives, workshops, various drives, health awareness campaigns, sports, recreational activities, arts, and entrepreneurship prospects.
Mbatha added that the back-toschool campaign focuses on helping local youth navigate the complexities of university applications, securing NSFAS funding, crafting impactful CVs, and assisting with late tertiary applications.
“The goal is to empower the youth with the tools they need to succeed in their educational endeavours. The Peasants (NPC) extends its impact beyond education, actively engaging in various community initiatives such as offering meals to the homeless, supporting the poor, providing assistance to those struggling with addiction, and influencing positive governance. The organisation’s commitment to community engagement and empowerment is reflected in its regular events, workshops, and activities aimed at fostering unity and empowerment,” he said.
