Lesson in football for Gamalakhe United

United's official Mpume Mbono said that they enjoyed the games and it gave them time to see how ready they are for the league.

According to Gamalakhe United, the practise matches they played against Ravens FC, Bizana Pondo City and Shayamoya Academy went smoothly and a football lesson was learned.

These four football clubs met at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe recently. These matches were in preparation for the after December recess league’s resumption.

United’s official Mpume Mbono said that they enjoyed the games and it gave them time to see how ready they are for the league. They are currently participating in the Hollywoodbets League, together with Shayamoya Academy while Ravens FC and Bizana Pondo City are campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League, just a level above United.

These matches were more about the players’ state of readiness rather than wins. Mbono said they learnt not to rush when in possession but to use every scoring opportunity.

“These matches gave us a football lesson. Ravens is a level above and it showed. We are used to keeping the ball for about 30 seconds, but they keep it for longer. But once you make a mistake they don’t forgive you. They punish you and score,” he said.

The final scores were: Shayamoya Academy 0-2 Pondo City, Ravens FC 2-0 Shayamoya Academy, Gamalakhe United 2-2 Pondo City and Ravens FC 4-0 Gamalakhe United.
