No deployment for Ugu District Champion

The KZN Legislature’s Ugu District Champion, who is also chairperson of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) Nonhlanhla Khoza has made it clear that she would not take any deployment after the 2024 national elections.
This was confirmed by KZN ANCWL secretary Zamazulu Sokhabase.
Sokhabase said Khoza served in many portfolios, saying that she was deployed by the ANC as a councillor in local government before being assigned to the Provincial Legislature, where she served as chairperson on different committees.
“We are thankful to several women leaders who have decided to retire but are committed to continue doing the ANC’s work. We are grateful to our chairperson. As the ANCWL, we will continue to tap into her wisdom as we navigate the path to bring about a better life for women in this province,” said Sokhabase.
Meanwhile, ANC National Executive Committee member, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma told the ANC that she plans to retire from Parliament in its next term.
Dlamini-Zuma who is the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disability said this in a letter to the Electoral Committee of the ANC led by Kgalema Motlanthe informing the party of her decision.
In the letter, Dlamini-Zuma said there will be no need for her to be interviewed as part of the 2024 public representative list process ahead of the elections this year as she will not be available.
She was nominated by ANC branches to return to parliament on the national list but the 74-year-old has turned them down.
“It will not be necessary to schedule an interview for the 2024 national list because I have decided to retire from being a member of the South African parliament,” read the letter.
Her retirement was welcomed by the KZN ANCWL Provincial Executive Committee, which said it applauds Dlamini-Zuma for her decision to step down from Parliament.
KZN ANCWL’s Sokhabase said the PEC appreciates her leadership in advocating for women’s issues and we celebrate her after thanking the ANC for deploying her since the dawn of democracy and after her nomination for the ANC’s 2024 parliamentary lists opted to take a back seat as she retires.
Sokhabase added: “We are very proud of the work done by comrade Dlamini-Zuma since her first deployment to Parliament soon after the dawn of democracy. We notice the changes she made in the public health sector, where she was deployed in the Department of Health, Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of International Relations, the first woman to lead the African Union Commission and the first chairperson of the commission from the Southern African Development Community, Cogta Minister and the last as the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities that she retired from. Currently, we are working on the National Youth Development Agency Amendment Bill. As the ANCWL PEC, we have served with Dlamini-Zuma, and she led us in different positions. We know her strength and capacity and she taught us a lot about fighting women’s issues. Dlamini-Zuma served with distinction under all democratically elected presidents of the Republic of South Africa.”
