No repairs yet to museum’s roof
Ray Nkonyeni Municipal spokesperson Simon April said the municipality is aware of the damages at the Port Shepstone Museum.
Residents have raised concerns about the damaged roof of the Port Shepstone Maritime and Cultural Museum.
The residents who did not want to be named contacted the Fever saying that the roof was damaged in November 2023, and it has not yet been repaired.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) spokesperson Simon April said the municipality is aware of the damage at the museum.
“The whole structure including the roof is insured. The process of instituting an insurance claim has been started so that the roof can be fixed,” said April.
The museum was opened in October 2018 by former KZN Premier Willies Mchunu.
According to a report by RNM, the museum is committed to growing the appreciation of local heritage, history and tourism, to create sustainable development and to promote social cohesion.
“This is achieved by forming collaborative partnerships with various relevant stakeholders to empower communities with museum knowledge and skills: educational programmes, careers, research, collections and exhibitions, events, etc.,” read the report.
