Back to school drive hailed a success
A member of the Peasants, Alwande Mbatha said the Back-to-School campaign aimed to assist the youth from across different demographics, ethnic backgrounds, religious affiliations, and social affiliations.
Nearly 1 500 young people were assisted through the Peasants’ Back-to-School Mass Application Drive, said the founders of the organisation.
When January started, the organisation embarked on a drive to assist young people with job applications, revamping CVs, and tertiary and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications.
During the drive, The Peasants visited the KwaXaba Community Hall in Ward 27, Gamalakhe, Bhomela Masele Creche in Ward 25, Gcilima Information Centre in Ward 9, Ward 5 Community Hall and Izingolweni Old Council Chambers in Ward 4.

“Founded in 2023 by a group of visionary philanthropists, The Peasants is an organisation committed to fostering positive change through economic growth, social welfare, and business leadership training. The members of the organisation envision a future where inspired, passionate, and driven individuals make lasting impacts in the lives of their families and communities. Since its inception, the organisation has been actively involved in serving the youth and elders through education initiatives, workshops, health awareness campaigns, sports and recreational activities, arts, and entrepreneurship prospects,” said Mbatha.
He added that they committed to knowledge sharing and providing resources for personal and business development.
Beyond education, added Mbatha, the Peasants want to offer meals to the homeless, support to the poor, and assistance to those struggling with addiction.
He said the organisation takes a proactive stance in influencing business aspects to positively impact governance, creating a lasting, positive presence in the community.
