Youth-owned businesses focus of new forum
This forum is for young people who want to grow the economy, as long as they are interested.
Business owners and brothers, Langa Ndadana (23) and Aneziwe Ndadana (20) recently established the South Coast Youth Business Forum (SCYBF).
As young entrepreneurs, they formed the SCYBF primarily in response to the current dynamics of awarding of tenders by municipalities, which have become notorious for unethical selection of businesses owned by family and friends.
Langa also notes that tenders are overly influenced by politics and that the local youth should not forfeit economic opportunities, due to political beliefs and circumstances.
“Politics should be put aside in business,” he said.
The vision of SCYBF is to increase the survival and subsequent success rate of youth-owned businesses on the South Coast.
Also, similar youth-focused forums have been formed before but have since disappeared. “We are not going to disappear and that SCYBF will serve as an access point for the local youth.”
As the chairperson, Langa said: “We have managed to grow our youth forum to 184 members. We are ready to present our organisation to our municipalities. This forum is for young people who want to grow the economy, as long as they are interested. There’s been an absence of youth in civil society organisations in business. One of the main reasons for the formation of this structure is to organise young people in all wards throughout the South Coast”.
