Digital safety in the spotlight
Since 2014, The Chat has been at the forefront of empowering families and communities through talks, workshops, counselling and curriculum.
Umdoni Christian Academy has been a pioneer in initiating community conversations that reflect their innovative and forward-thinking culture.
Once again, they have stepped up by identifying a much-needed programme in a society saturated with digital technology and the increasing prevalence of screen time.
As such, The Chat is on a mission to guide parents and teens towards safe and responsible online behaviour.
According to the latest research from Data Reportal, the average screen time for users aged 16 to 64 is a staggering six hours and 37 minutes per day. Mobile devices account for the majority of this time, with users spending an average of three hours and 46 minutes fixated on their smartphones.
Desktop computer screens are not far behind, contributing to two hours and 51 minutes of daily screen time. These statistics underscore the significant impact of screen usage on individuals worldwide, emphasising the need for effective solutions.
Since 2014, The Chat has been at the forefront of empowering families and communities through talks, workshops, counselling and curriculum. Last year alone, they delivered over 200 talks, reaching thousands of children, teens and adults, resulting in remarkable outcomes such as stories of healing and empowerment.
Now, Umdoni Christian Academy and His Church South Coast will host an event with the aim of providing valuable insights for parents and teens, equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate the digital landscape and promote safe, wise and kind online behaviour.
Key takeaways from the Let’s Chat event include the understanding that the quality of time spent on screens matters more than just the duration. Parents have a crucial role in guiding their children’s digital lives, and ensuring online safety is of paramount importance, as most abuse occurs in digital spaces.
Educating children about healthy digital habits is essential for their overall well-being. Therefore, parents and teens are strongly encouraged to attend the event and actively participate in important discussions about digital safety and responsible online behaviour.
Join The Chat at the His Church Auditorium, Umdoni Christian Academy, Park Rynie on Tuesday, March from 18:00 to 20:00, to equip yourself with the necessary tools to navigate the digital world and empower your children for a safe and positive online experience.
