Stranded sea turtle rescued
It was taken to Durban to Sea World, where it remains in their care for rehabilitation.
It was a beautiful sight after members of the community and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Shelly Beach rallied behind a stranded and injured sea turtle at St Mike’s beach last Saturday.
NSRI Shelly Beach station commander Gary Wolmarans said at about 18:00, the crew headed to St Mike’s beach after reports from C-Bali restaurant staff who were concerned about a stranded sea turtle which appeared to be injured.
Wolmarans said on arrival, the turtle was collected and taken to the NSRI Station 20 rescue base.
“Staff at Durban’s Sea World had been alerted. We loaded the sea turtle into our rescue vehicle and transported it to Sea World, where it remains in their care for rehabilitation The restaurant staff are commended for alerting NSRI,” said Wolmarans.
