Easter markets a success for Margate

Fever Local News | The next Mardi Gras will be held in front of the Wimpy at Margate Beach on Friday, April 26.

The regular Margate Mardi Gras has grown to be a popular outing for visitors and locals.

Organiser Madelein Stopforth said the Easter Margate Mardi Gras held recently turned out to be an awesome event.

“Road closure was denied, but I refused to cancel the event. So we held it in front of the Wimpy. Most of the vendors sold all their stock and reported back saying this was the most money they had made at any of the previous markets,” she said.

The Uvongo Mini Mardi Gras was also well attended.

Madelein said a lot of vendors could not be there due to their stock selling out at the Margate Mardi Gras.

“The spin-off from these markets benefit everyone in the area,” she added.

Proceeds are donated to Tidy Towns Shelly Beach to Margate.
