Entrepreneur bags business prize

A small business owner, Sinegugu Hlobisile Cele, recently bagged R30 000 at the Bambelela Business Awards.
Cele received the cash along with 17 small business owners after they pitched their ideas.

She is the founder of Good to Glow Beauty and Cosmetics which makes and sells handmade body, lip and hair products.

The Bambelela Business Awards is a flagship initiative in the Hollywood Foundation’s enterprise and supplier development programme.

According to the foundation, these awards are crafted to recognise and honour the exceptional contributions of local entrepreneurs in KZN, not only making a positive impact in their communities but also driving job creation.

“It is done under the inspiring theme ‘Bambelela (Hold On) – Your dreams are valid’. As part of the celebration, small businesses are invited to participate in the Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) exhibition and seminar, where they have the opportunity to showcase their work. A panel of esteemed judges evaluate the entries and identify businesses that demonstrate outstanding merit and impact. Winners do not only win prestigious awards but also a share of R750 000 in funding generously provided by the Hollywood Foundation,” it said.

Cele said winning the cash means a great deal to her as it shows that her business is of a high standard.

“Considering that I was competing with SMMEs from around KZN and that I was able to make it in the top 20 shows that my business has what it takes,” she said.

She hopes to open a store one day.

“I also want to hold master classes for people who want to start businesses or who have started businesses but need assistance. As someone from a small town, I realise the challenges that entrepreneurs have with starting a successful business and I want to be one of those business people who helps usher in a new wave of young entrepreneurs, pioneers and innovators,” she said.
