Disabled woman in desperate need of stoma bags
At a young age, she was shot in the back and the bullet lodged in her spine, and now she is wheelchair-bound.
With tears in her eyes, Nonsikelelo Dlamini from Murchison, explains that she is not only physically disabled but also emotionally incapacitated.
She was injured in 1993, at the age of 11, during political violence.
According to Dlamini, she was shot in the back, and the bullet lodged in her spine, and she is wheelchair-bound.
As she is disabled, she relies on stoma bags to collect bodily waste; however, she has not received the bags for months.
Furthermore, she said the used bags are not collected for disposal, so she discards them in a pit toilet.
“My situation is not only affecting me but also the people around me.”
The KZN Department of Health’s spokesperson, Nathi Oliphant, acknowledged the query on Dlamini and said he would contact the district for more information.
In the meantime, life is a daily struggle for her, as she only has one leg and has been told by doctors that it might be amputated because of blood clots.
Also, her living conditions are not suitable for a disabled person. “What bothers me a lot is how I live; my house is leaking and has no windows. I have tried to get an RDP house, but that was unsuccessful.”
