Winter games to showcase sports skills
Football, swimming, volleyball, rugby, karate, indigenous games, netball, and basketball will be part of the programme.
The Makhulukhulu Protection Gamalakhe Association will host its winter games at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on July 13 and 14.
Coaches of different sporting codes were invited to the Gamalakhe Library, where an announcement was made on Monday last week.
Football, swimming, volleyball, rugby, karate, netball, basketball, and indigenous games will be part of the programme.
Gamalakhe Football Association’s chairperson, Tino Ndwalane, said the games will allow communities to come together in friendly competition and showcase their skills in various disciplines.
Ndwalane said the objective of the games was to promote physical activity, healthy competition, and community engagement.
“By offering a range of sports codes, Makhulukhulu aims to cater to diverse interests and abilities, encouraging participation from individuals of all ages and backgrounds,” he said.
He added that each sports code will have its competition schedule, with matches and events throughout the two days.
Ndwalane said participants will either compete individually or as a team.
Medals and awards will be presented to the winners of each category.
The games will include entertainment and cultural activities, such as music performances, dance showcases, and traditional food stalls.
“It will be a festive atmosphere and provide a space for participants and spectators to connect and celebrate. The two-day event will foster community engagement and social cohesion, showcase local talent and skills in sports, and celebrate diversity and cultural heritage,” he said.
