Call to join regional church council
The intention of the relaunch is for the churches to become part of the solution to address social ills in communities, and to be the voice of those who cannot speak for themselves.
The KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council has formed an interim district structure with the aim of re-establishing a regional council – the Ugu District Ecumenical Christian Council.
It was established in 2004 as the Ugu Ministers Network, an affiliate of the KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council, founded by Prophet Sandile Msimanga.
Msimanga said in 2008, the Ugu Ministers Network expanded to Umzimkhulu and the name changed to Southern KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council.
He said in 2022, the provincial structure proposed that all regional councils must fall under the demarcation of districts.
A meeting was held at Margate Hotel recently with representation from the mainline churches, Pentecostals and Charismatics churches, provincial representatives and Exco members.
Msimanga, the chairperson of the council, said that the intention of the relaunch is for the churches to become part of the solution to address social ills in communities, and to be the voice of those who cannot speak for themselves.
“We call on all denominations to be part of this process for our district, as clergies and the church,” he added.
A task team has been established to implement the relaunch under the Ugu District Ecumenical Christian Council.
