March and March: 'I got my Identity Document from Nelson Mandela' says disgruntled Gamalakhe businessman
By early afternoon, the march was still on the go, with more people joining in.
Things got a little bit out of hand when a businessman known as Santos (surname not known at time of publishing) was found to have opened his spaza shop during a March and March event in Gamalakhe earlier today.
Santos said he had every right to open his shop as he is a South African and has an identity document that he ‘got from Nelson Mandela’, he claimed.
March and March leaders asked him to close but he refused – until police arrived and also asked him to ‘leave the shop and go’.
Things then became heated between members of the community and foreign nationals who were alongside Santos.
Employees at the shop were left behind, saying they would open when the march had gone past.
By early afternoon, the march was still on the go, with more people joining in.
