It was well worth the trip for the talented athletes.

The International Shorei Martial Arts Academy (ISMAA) championship, held in Helderkruin, Roodepoort brought together 15 dojos to celebrate the spirit of Goju Ryu Karate.

The event, held in commemoration of the martial art’s values and traditions, was a resounding success, showcasing the dedication and skill of its participants.

From the South Coast, Nimai Duki earned gold for kata and bronze for kumite, and was named 2025 Kata ISMAA champion.

Drishti Duki secured silver in kata and bronze in kumite. Tyrese Faro earned bronze in kata.

Chief instructor, Hanshi Arnold de Beer, led the gathering, which featured students from Gauteng, Potchefstroom, Port Shepstone and Krugersdorp.

The tournament’s organisation and execution was flawless, thanks to the tireless efforts of the referees and table officials.

The championship not only highlighted the students’ technical skills but also their sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Congratulations to all participants, organisers and officials for making this event an unforgettable experience.
