The Bell welcomed some upcountry bowlers.

BANNERS REST

WINNERS of the women’s pairs last Friday were Baba du Plessis and Leoni Booth. Runners-up were Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells.

Session prize went to Yvonne Fillis and Amy Körner. The 50/50 board winner was Lucas Esterhuyse.

The Sunday men’s pairs winners were Barry Turner and Andreas van der Linde, from Brian and Ron Camps,

Session prize went to Bob Francis and Aubrey Hood. The 50/50 board winner was Brian Cole-Cook.

Jill Francis is wished a happy birthday for the 19th.

The SuperSpar mixed trips is on August 21. Jaye Russell is on tea duty.

HIBBERDENE

AT the annual general meeting on July 31 the following people were elected: Bez Bezuidenhout (chairman), Eddie Milne (vice chairman), Jenny Isemonger (secretary), Bubbles Bezuidenhout (treasurer).

Grateful thanks is extended to the hard-working outgoing committee.

The All Natal men’s singles will be hosted locally from August 17 to 19.

The winners of the competition held last Friday were Bez Bezuidenhout, Hana Svoboda and Louise Shone.

Runners-up were Roger Burwood, Pauline Howle and Francis Raymond.

Session prize was won by Ann Matthyson, Dirk Matthyson and Brian Commins.

The men’s fours team competing in Scottburgh Week came sixth overall, toppling the leading team in the final game on Friday morning.

There is competition bowls on Friday afternoon at 1.30pm.

The women’s team that played in the Scottburgh Week enjoyed their games and made lots of friends.

MARGATE BC

WINNERS of the Halfway Toyota men’s trips played on Friday were Mike Jeffrey, Ernie Southward and Lionel Krause on 4+16.

Runners-up were Len Sprong, Percy Legg and Oscar Pienaar on 4+5. The session prize went to Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Chris Abrams on 2+19.

The annual Moth day that was held recently was a huge success and all those involved are thanked.

The winners were Tom Cawker, Brian Cole-Cook, Ellen Cawker and Pam Cole-Cook on 4+41.

Runners-up were Esta Wenzel, Yvonne van Mentz, Bernie Wenzel and Rassie Erasmus on 4+37 and in third spot were Graham and Angie Gold, Louise Dry and Cliff Moakes on 4+25.

Session prize went to Franci and Neville Philpott together with Kobus and Christine Faber on 2+15.

The next sponsored tournaments are the Manaba Spar women’s 2-4-2 on Friday, August 16 and the Mooirivier Brokers’ mixed 2-4-2 to be held on Friday, August 23.

Don’t forget to put in your diary the next quiz evening to be held on Wednesday, August 21 and bingo on Monday, September 2.

Coaching is available every Saturday at 9am and the only requirement is that flat-soled shoes are worn.

MARGATE CC

WINNERS of the Something Nice Cafe women’s fours were Kobie Stander, Sandra Singleton, Rita and Winnie Hess on 24 +24.

Runners-up were Heather Roberts, Dora Vosloo, Jean Marnewick and Helen Proctor on 22 + 11.

In view of the earlier than normal AGM the AGM Cup of mixed drawn trips will actually be held on September 21.

The club’s competition winners will also be awarded their prizes on this day.

A snack lunch will be available on that day at 12.15pm so make sure you all come early and enjoy the afternoon. Please will all prize winners ensure they are in full club colours for the photo sessions.

MUNSTER

THE men’s pairs played last Friday, sponsored by 7th Heaven, was won by Jokkie van Buuren and Dave Banks.

Runners-up were Graham Gold and Royston Townsend.

The raffle was won by Sergio Ruperto and the second session prize by Herman Botha and Clifford Moakes.

PORT SHEPSTONE

THE club singles was completed this weekend and congratulations go to Maureen Muller, and new boy on the block Jacques Snyman for winning the women’s and men’s titles respectively.

All the best at the forthcoming Champion of Champions competition in September.

RIVERSIDE

GOOD bowling is wished to Ron Weddell, Ross Ferguson and Sydney Ackermann who are playing in the KZN men’s singles.

The next sponsored competition will be Fruit & Veg mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, August 30.

A well-attended beetle drive was held on Friday. Thank you to Jo-Anne Francis of Ocean Oasis Cafe for providing the food and the vouchers which were won by Yvonne Anderson and Brian Hansell.

The 50/50 board was won by Linda Hansell and the accumulator prize was won by Marilyn Francis. An enjoyable evening was had by all. Join in this Friday for a fun evening.

THE Geochem mixed trips will be held on Sunday, August 18 in the afternoon.

THE BELL

SPRINGS Old Boys visited the club for the 17th year last weekend for a fun-filled two days of bowls. On Saturday afternoon, the visiting bowlers played teams from the host club and the Springs Old Boys won the trophy.

This was followed by a dinner dance. On Sunday morning, the Old Boys took on teams comprising The Bell club members and a few East Randers before everyone tucked into a bring and braai.

Along with the excellent company and great weather, a great time was had by all.

The Captain’s Anchor mixed fours will be played on Friday, August 16. Convener Tony Olivant, caterers Penny Hartmann and Patti Mullen.

The Something Nice mixed 2-4-2 will be played on Tuesday, August 20, convener Irene Harris, catering by Estelle Ford and Annette Scott.

Duties: tabs – Stan and Joan Sackett; bar – Jody Slade and Stafford Tippett; umpire – Irene Harris.

UMTENTWENI

CHRIS Jacobs and Steve Doran won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs played last Tuesday with a score of 4+5 from runners-up Geoff Barbour and Abe Basson on 3+15. The session prize was won by Johan McLeod and Hennie Greyling on 2+12.

Jack van der Berg, Tony Aveyard and Eudelle Caney won the Schooners Restaurant 3-2-1 scoring mixed trips played last Saturday. Second prize went to Geoff Kelleher, Linda Hobbs and Joan Queen.

The next competition will be the John Dory’s mixed fours on Friday, August 16, followed by the Abingdon Road Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on Thursday, August 22.

Steve Doran’s name was inadvertently left off the list of the new office bearers for 2013/2014. Steve is the club’s bar manager.

Another new name is that of Dennis Graham who has accepted the position of competition secretary.

VILLAGE

WINNERS of the Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 were Hazel Hosken and Denise Palframan followed by Rosalie Bloom and Audrey Faux. Sessions went to Joan Isherwood and Marie Momple and to Shirley Barlow and Myra Barnard. Ina Malan won the 50/50.

The next competitions to be held at our club are Highland Fryer/Halfway Toyota mixed 2-4-2 on Monday, August 19, Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 on Thursday, August 22 and Execudec mixed 2-4-2 on Tuesday, August 27.

Bill Latham and Rosemary Esterhuysen are the new club singles champions, beating Alan Tyers and Hazel Hosken respectively.

The winners of the annual Munro MacKay drawn mixed fours were Lucas Barnard, Irene Holland, Hilary Fick and Bill Lord.

The lucky winners of the drawn Something Nice vouchers were Shirley Barlow, Dave Garland, Chris Haslam, Hugh Holland, Bill Latham and Ali Mitchell.

Don’t forget the annual Umdoni versus Village challenge on Wednesday, August 21.

There is a must be won jackpot of R800 at the bingo to be held this Friday, August 16 when boerwors rolls and Russian hotdogs will be available.

The KZN men’s singles will be held at the club this Saturday, August 17 so there will be no social bowls, but markers are needed.
