Swimmers take time off in the pool
The youngsters turned in some stellar performances.
BLUE Ocean Aquatics had 11 swimmers take part in the recent Beavers winter championship gala.
Denita-Sue Pieterse came home with a gold medal in the 50m breaststroke, silver medals in the 200m breaststroke and 50m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke. She also recorded a 10.26 second overall improvement on her times.
Londi Busse and Michelle Kretzschmar narrowly missed out on bronze medals in their respective backstroke races but did improve their times by 106.13 and 7.22 seconds respectively.
The club was able to field two relay teams for the 4 x 50m medley relay. The A team placed a near fourth and the B team also swam well.
Jade Busse took part in her first Level 1 gala and did exceptionally well, improving her times by 70.50 seconds. Ava-Mae Lilje improved by 41.22 seconds and qualified for level 1 nationals in all her events. Tamara Venter had some wonderful swims and improved her times by 20.58 seconds. Carla Kretzschmar improved by 13.47 seconds and Janine Oosthuizen by 12.12 seconds.
Kayla Heydricks swam five events on the Saturday and was the only swimmer to improve on all her times. Her overall improvement was 62.93 seconds, an amazing accomplishment.
Rudi Steyn was the only male swimmer from the club who took part and he did an awesome job in racing and taking 27.50 seconds off his times.
Coach, Mandy Koegelenberg is looking forward to a great summer season if this is what the swimmers can produce from winter training. An outstanding achievement for all and the club now looks forward to the KZN Junior Championships in two weeks’ time.
