SCALE squeeze, tyre flipping and car pulling all took place at the Genesis Gym last Saturday, when the Marburg Youth and Community Centre held its annual strongman competition.
“The participation for this event was encouraging to see,” said Lynn Brackley, the youth operations manager.
“There were a lot of people who entered from Port Shepstone to Margate; some were from as far as Port Edward,” she said.
Plenty of events were organised by the centre with bench press and dead lift followed by the entertaining events like scale squeeze, tyre flipping and car pulling. The most important event of them all was the strongman bodybuilding.
In between all the excitement, Brian Cele, manager of the Marburg Gym and event organiser, gave a short insight into how the Genesis Gym has had a positive impact on his life.

Brian has established himself as a qualified personal trainer, has a range of experience in bodybuilding and has won several national bodybuilding competitions over a period of five years. Since then his focus has been on coaching gym members who also want to achieve success in bodybuilding.
