Margate swimmers place in top 20

Both swimmers improved on their personal best times.

MARGATE Swimming Club (MSC) teammates Danielle Smith and Shêbjorn Axelson travelled through to the prestigious SA National short course swimming championships in Pietermaritzburg to compete alongside South Africa’s elite athletes.

In a highly competitive meet held over four days, both swimmers achieved exciting results. Danielle Smith was placed competitively in her heats, achieving improved times in her two favourite events, the 50m and 200m backstroke, progressing through to the semi-finals in the 200m backstroke and finishing 11th overall.

A very happy Shêbjorn Axelson got off to a great start with a fast swim in her 100m freestyle event, improving on her previous personal best time and placing her inside the top 20. She followed this up with great swims in her 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle events.

Both girls were very happy with their swims and are looking forward to improving on their times at the Seagulls short course later in September.
