Pieter at the UTC helm – for now

Mitzi Cross will be sorely missed.

WITH championships done and dusted, Uvongo Tennis Club held its annual general meeting at the end of August. Although Pieter de Kock is relocating, he has agreed to remain as chairman until his move.

The club welcomed a new vice-chairman, Jan Visser who recently relocated to the South Coast. Duncan Biggar, Annette Perrow and Val Kriel retain their places as treasurer, secretary and catering convener respectively.

On a sadder note, the club’s oldest member, Mitzi Cross died at the age of 88. Although she was not able to play tennis this year, she did play in the 2012 championships.

She will be missed, especially by those who stayed after playing and enjoyed her humour and a beer with her. Members welcomed back Truna Burgers after her injury.

After a request from Southbroom Tennis Club a match will be arranged against it. Uvongo TC hopes to retain the trophy.

Birthdays in September: Deon Burgers, Denis Mitchell, Oliver Perrow, Felicity Swinney and AnnaMarie Wege.

Best wishes to members and their families who may be celebrating other occasions during the month.

Duties: Saturday 21 – Ali Majova, Monday 23 – Dave Snashall, Tuesday 24 – Willem Erasmus, Wednesday 25 – Felicity Swinney.
