Gerald aces the 14th
THE Friday open day at Southbroom Golf Club was won by Derek James, Pete Smith, Janet Humphrey and Connor James on 98 points. They edged out Gordon Moody, Kerry Fielden, Mari Fielden and Keagan Burton, who had 97 points.
In third place, on a countout, were Dudley Simmonds, John Scott, Graham Volck and Graham Taylor on 94 points.
The highlight of the day was a hole-in-one produced by Gerald Myers on the 14th hole. The other nearest the pins were won by Wanda Nxumalo (4th), Michelle Davies (5th), Gordon Abbey (8th), Rene Matthew (11th) and Edwin Steyn (15th).
John Haswell won the competition last Saturday on 43 points. He had two two-clubs which certainly helped his cause. He was two ahead of Hugh Purtell and Don Osbourn.
On 40 points were Connor James, Dudley Simmonds, Allan Woods, Andrew Leckie and Stan Date.
In the women’s section, Rene Matthew and Ruth Mosburger both had 37 points, with Rene winning the countout. There were some withdrawals due to the early morning rain.
The previous Wednesday’s competition saw Dudley Simmonds take first prize on nett 67, with Derek James in second place on nett 69. Gavin Sole and Dave Neilson both had nett 70.
Hendry Kotze won the Stableford section on 43 points, with Joe Carolan next on 41 points, followed by Gordon Moody and Norman Farrell, both on 40 points.
The women’s section was won by Ruth Mosburger on nett 75, on a countout from Janet Humphrey. The bronze section was won by Mary Carolan on nett 69, with Liz Shaw next on nett 72.

Margaret edges out Margaret
MARGARET Taylor won the individual Stableford at Margate Country Club last Tuesday on 42 points. Margaret Ford was second on 40 points and Una McLachlan third on 39 points.
The Wobblers’ alliance saw Hans Dallinger, Derek Egerton and Tony Peace take first place on 95 points, 10 clear of Roy Knight, Karl Zurfluh and Andrew Dickerson, as well as Ken Norval, Ernie Kuttner and Jim Finn.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Pops Harrison, Peter Rogers and Fred Boshoff on 73 points.
Thursday’s competition was won by Edwin Steyn on 40 points, on a countout from Alan Davies. Fanie Terblanche was third on 39 points, and Brian Jolliffe fourth on 38 points. Nearest the pin, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages, was won by Fanie Terblanche.
Patrick Mavundla won the men’s monthly mug A division on nett 69, counting out Pierre Steyn.
Christo Esterhuizen scored nett 71 to win the B division on a countout from John Botha.
Allan Halvorsen had it a bit easier in the C division, carding nett 70 to finish three clear of John Crewe.
The women’s bronze division was won by Lesley Erasmus on nett 70, one ahead of Margaret Taylor. Caroline Harris was third on nett 72.
The monthly open mixed alliance, sponsored by Shelly SuperSpar, was won by Colin and Beryl Williamson, Cyril and Corinne Greensmith on 93 points.
In second place were Piet and Elize Pretorius, Johann and Lesley Erasmus on 91 points.

Farewell for Dane
PORT Shepstone Country Club held a golf day for the pro shop’s Dane Adendorff last Saturday. Dane will be heading to Boca West Country Club in Florida where he will fulfil a similar role to the one he has at Sheppie.
Wednesday ind bonus bogey
The competition was a hard-fought thing, won by John Beekman and Rob Harrison on 45 points.
They counted out Pete Stoppel and Gary Vogt, Craig and Cilla Lindsay, Ashoo Singh and Santhos Baskali, Terry Kotze and Ken Morris, as well as Dane Adendorff and Damien Browning.
Charles and Jenny Hulley had 44 points, one ahead of Johan Pretorius and Ganes Munsami on 43 points.
The previous Wednesday’s competition was won on +5 by Phil Myburgh, edging out Paul Bunge and Leon Reeders who both had +4.

Justin ‘The Rose’ Naidoo in full flight
JUSTIN Naidoo and Resheen Goberdan outplayed Pravesh Govender and Bobby Naidoo in the fourth round of the Pro-Vision matchplay champs at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.
Justin said afterwards that it has been a breeze getting through to the semi-final stage of the competition. Matchplay games need to be finalised by the end of September.
This Sunday’s social game will take place at Port Shepstone Country Club with tee off times available from 8.30am.
