Slow start for cricketers
Unfortunately SKZN lost the toss and had to bat on a sticky wicket.
SOUTHERN KwaZulu-Natal played against Delta in their first game in the premier league at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.
Delta won by seven wickets but there were signs that the locals could pose some of the more fancied teams a headache or two in future games.
The team hoped to win the toss and send the Delta batsmen in to bat, but unfortunately lost and had to bat on a sticky wicket, which caused the ball to hold up.
Due to the difficult batting conditions, SKZN only managed to score 100 runs all out in 37 overs. Top batsmen were Mathew Denton-Cooke (18) and Ashley Lombard (14). Delta scored 103/3 in 26 overs. Spinner Raja Kazi was the pick of the bowlers with 2/6 after seven overs.
Coach, Niko Potgieter, said that, this being the first premier game, the younger players were nervous, but the team will be back on form next week when they play the African Warriors at DHS Old Boys’ field.
All players to please note that the new practice days are Fridays from 4.30pm and Saturdays from 2pm to 5pm.
