HOSTING the UK bowlers who are currently visiting the South Coast was indeed a great pleasure and everyone who helped prepare and serve the delicious food is sincerely thanked.

The trips sponsored by Hibberdene SuperSpar played last Friday was won by Eddie Milne, Kallie Quinn and Chris Snyman. Keith Milne, Dudley Isemonger and John Hoyer were runners-up and the session prize went to Norman Aiston, Dennis Lewis and Jan Oosthuizen. The event was followed by prize-giving and the presentation of trophies and awards to this year’s successful winners. All are congratulated including the most improved player for 2012/2013, Louise Shone.
The club will be closed for the next few weeks until such time that the green keepers are satisfied with the state of the greens.
MARGATE BC
CONGRATULATIONS are extended to Ronita Kalil (gold), Pam Cole-Cook (silver), Ellen Cawker (bronze) and Jessica Henderson (fourth) on taking top honours in the KBA Masters at The Bell last weekend.
The winners of the Margate Panelbeaters’ men’s 2-4-2 played on Friday were Dieter Scholz and John Sutton on 4+11. Chris Forward and Ken Tonge were runners-up on 4+5 and the sessions went to Ernie Southward and Derek McKechnie (2+13) and Ian Hutton and Ron Canning (2+8).
The next sponsored competition is the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 tomorrow, Friday, October 11. Halfway Toyota open trips is scheduled for Friday, October 18. Contact Ellen Cawker (082 8019339) or Dave Barber (083 4503272) respectively.

A bowls awareness day has been arranged for Sunday, October 27. Bring friends and family and enjoy a morning of fun.

LAST Friday’s bingo and supper evening was a great success. With the green still closed members are now encouraged to keep the club’s ‘social’ side in full swing, by attending lunch at 7th Heaven restaurant this Sunday, October 13. This is a great opportunity to support one of the club’s generous sponsors. Please phone Steve Golding who is handling the booking.
Prize-giving dinner will be held on Friday, October 18 at 6pm. Prize winners are requested to be in full bowls uniform.
The green is coming along nicely and there should be some news at prize-giving regarding the opening date.
MARGATE CC
ATHOL Robertson, Dieter Scholz and Chris Faber won the Allan Uzzel Upholsterer’s men’s trips on 4+18. The runners-up were Oscar Pienaar, Roy Baker and Danny McArthur on 4+13. The session prize went to Ivan Hosken, Reg Saunders and Denzil Massyn on 2+8 and the 50/50 draw was won by Reg Saunders.
This month’s winners of The Hair Shoppe women’s fours were Sheena Absolom, Vicki de Beer, Yvonne Saunders and Yvonne Bausek on 21+6. The runners-up were Heather Roberts, Dora Vosloo, Mal Shepherd and Helen Proctor on 20+10. Gae Gravell won the 50/50 draw.
The monthly tabs attendance award of R200 sponsored by Barry and Joan Fowler went to Dora Vosloo. Thanks Dora for being so committed to club tabs.
Thank you Helen Proctor for taking on the task of keeping the garden surrounds the most beautiful on the South Coast. Many members brought compost and shrubs and a special thanks to Jo and Martiens Olivier for helping Helen to make bowling at Margate CC an altogether wonderful and relaxing experience.
SOUTHBROOM
MEMBERS will be delighted to hear the club will reopen this Saturday, October 12 with bowls followed by a bring and braai. Everyone is invited to come along and join in the festivities. The women are asked to bring a salad.
The quiz and fish and chips evening will be held this Friday, October 11 at 6pm for 6.30pm. This popular evening is always well patronised but it would be nice to see more bowlers attending.

STEVE O’Moore and Peter Ford won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs competition played on Tuesday, October 1 with a score of 4+20. Mike King and Bob Moroney were runners-up on 4+19 and Tony Aveyard and John Roelofse won the session prize on 2+13.
John and Anne Payn won the HarbourView SuperSpar (in house) mixed 2-4-2 competition played on Friday, October 4 with 4+20. Isobel Kilian and Dumisani Madlala were runners-up on 4+13 and Eric Grierson and Marie Fourie won the session prize on 4+2.
The Sezela/Umtentweni fellowship mixed trips competition, due to be played this Sunday, October 13, has been postponed indefinitely.
The next competition is the J.Cee Sounds mixed pairs on Monday, October 14.
THE BELL
THE KBA Masters was held at The Bell last weekend. Eddie Fann (PSCC) is congratulated on winning the men’s division and Ronita Kalil (MBC) on winning the women’ s section. Louw Vermeulen from The Bell was placed third. Thanks to all concerned with the arrangements.
The Captain’s Anchor mixed fours has been postponed for October.
The British/UK bowlers friendly will take place today, Friday, October 11 followed by the Venture Inn/Jaxx Restaurant men’s trips on Tuesday, October 15.(Convenor – Steve O’Moore. Catering – Sharolyn Dacey and Geraldine Celliers).
The ‘B’ green will be closing for approximately six weeks commencing Monday, October 14 so with only one green available, it will be a case of ‘ first come, first served’. Phone-in calls for tabs will not be accepted.

THE next sponsored competitions will be Airprof Engineering men’s trips on Wednesday, October 16 and Fruit and Veg City mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, October 25.
The lists are on the board for the men’s and women’s KBA sevens league, as well as the club’s men’s and women’s drawn fours competition.
At the social evening last Friday, Barbara Iceton was the winner of the 50/50 board and the accumulator prize was won by Sandy Ferguson. Joanne Francis of Ocean Oasis Café is thanked for supplying the chicken and chips.
The next social evening will be on Friday, October 18. Members are reminded of the orange and black themed Halloween dinner dance at R60 per person on Friday, November 1.

GRAHAM and Anjie Gold won the 19th Hole mixed pairs played on Friday, October 4. Gawie Bosman and Anne Wells were runners-up and the second session went to Brian and Pam Cole-Cook. Pam also won the 50/50 board.
Hannes du Plessis, Leigh Warner, Martiens Zietsman and Debbie King won the Help Foundation drawn mixed pairs played on Saturday, October 5. Graham Gold, Ray Elders, Ken Milton and Sariena Fouché were runners-up of this well supported event. The sportsman prize went to Peter Ziervögel, Baba du Plessis, John Barclay and Gail Botes. Steve Rennie won the spider, Ally Weir was the lucky winner of the raffle and the 50/50 board went to Ray Elders.
The Tops Port Edward men’s pairs played on Sunday, October 6 was won by Hannes du Plessis and John Keppler. Dan Delaney and Dave Banks were runners-up and the second session was won by Kotie Snyman and Frik Venter. Esmé Snyman won the 50/50 board.
