Willie rushes to super score
WILLIE Rush produced one of his best rounds in recent times last Saturday, carding 73 off his 11 handicap. He helped his team comprising Norman Jeffrey, Hugh Purtell and George Wright win the competition on 90 points. If Willie keeps this up he should be able to break his age in a few year’s time, something Hugh has done with frequent monotony.
Willie said he shifted his weight from his heels to his toes. “Suddenly the swing plane was correct and I started hitting it straight,” he said. He had loops of 38 and 35, with birdies on the 6th and 17th holes.
There was a tie for second place on 89 points, shared by Derrik Matthew, Bruce Matthew, Norman Farrell and Gordon Moody, as well Kerry Fielden, Geoff Skelton, Graham Volck and Graham Taylor.
In the women’s section Janet Humphrey, Jenny du Preez, Trudy Rush and Di Morris took first place on 87 points, three clear of Lan Yeadon, Jean Purtell, Jeanne Powell and ‘ghost’. In third place on 83 points were Ruth Mosburger, Lorraine Cook, Joy Crutchfield and Janet Barclay on 83 points.
The previous Wednesday’s men’s comp saw Erwin Schanda and Graham Volck card 48 points to edge out Hugh Purtell and Dudley Simmonds, as well as Vic Pretorius and Olliver Ransome, Ossie Osbourne and Barry Amm, Jannie and Jason Ackerman, who had two two-clubs.
Janet Barclay and Yvonne Janvier won the women’s comp on 46 points, one ahead of Jeanette Peyios and Irene Schanda, Shelley Myers and Janet Humphrey, and Kate Clarence and Kate Currin.

Wobblers play in sequence
THE Wobblers played a one, two, three to count in sequence at Margate Country Club last week.
In first place were Brian Jeffreys, Derek Egerton and James Tutt on 87 points. In a tie for second place on 79 points were Frank Merrill, Ken Oakley and Freddie Boshoff as well as Eddie Pyle, Piet Pretorius and Otto Mutschler.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Ernie Kuttner, Frank Stephens and John Gibson on nett 66.
The regular pro shop comp last Thursday saw Edwin Steyn take first prize on 39 points. He counted out Rob McArthur who was nearest the pin on the 16th, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages.
The business day last Friday, sponsored by Giorgio Express and Margate pro shop, was a hard-fought affair, won by Richard Plaskitt, Piet Ludick, Rob McArthur and Kenny Wienand on 92 points.
They counted out Elize Pretorius, Piet Pretorius, Frank Merrill and Rob McGill.
In a tie for third on 91 points were Edwin Steyn, Michael Downs, Mike Bond and Elvis Khawula, as well as Ronnie Mtshaka, Sipho Nxumalo, Koko Zithumane and Vusi Maphu.
In fifth spot on 90 points were Freddie Boshoff, Morne Herold, Jan Richter and Greg Hornby.
Nearest the pins, sponsored by Blue Lagoon, were Ronnie Mtshaka (4th) and James Tutt (11th).
Saturday’s betterball Stableford was won on 47 points by Gordon McLachlan and Una McLachlan, followed on 46 points by Graham Scowby and Neil Townsend, as well as John Webster and Rob Bouwer.

Business day tomorrow
KEN Morris and Graham Dickson won Port Shepstone Country Club’s combined Stableford last Wednesday on 73 points, on a countout from John Pritchard and Kevin Loring.
The Saturday Auto Exec monthly mug saw Sue van den Berg win on 43 points, edging out Jenny Hulley on 42 points.
The men’s A division was won Keegan Reddy on nett 67, four ahead of Phil Myburgh on nett 71.
Mike Pillay won the B division on nett 66, counting out Benny Pillay.
In the C division, victory went to Dave Milne on nett 68, three ahead of Koos Fouche.
Keegan had the best gross of 74, while the overall mug went to Mike Pillay.
The business day is this Friday, October 11.

Matchplay hots up
COLLIN Moodley and Santhos Baskali cruised to victory in the quarter-finals of the Pro-Vision matchplay champs. They will advance to the semi-finals courtesy of a resounding win against
Kass Pillay and Dhevan Moodley. “We will skin our next opponents,” said a confident Collin, throwing down the gauntlet.
The next social game will be at Margate Country Club this Sunday, October 13 with tee off times available from 8.30am.
