Lionel’s roar not quite enough
Despite the loss, there are some very promising signs.
LIONEL Jali, who cracked 57 runs, was once again the top scorer for Southern KwaZulu-Natal in their encounter with Berea Rovers at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.
Southern KZN batted first and scored 203 all out. with Morne Bishop (45) and Grant Small (31) making useful contributions.
In reply, Rovers made the runs with four wickets to spare.
Yusuf Moosa clung to a cracker of a catch and Garreth Bishop and Ashley Lombard combined to run out one of the Rovers batsman.
Despite the loss, Southern KZN gained some confidence, putting up a fight against the team that is top of the premier division log.
“The boys are improving and will get their first victory soon,” said manager Niko Potgieter.
The next game is against Uthangulu District in Empangeni this Sunday.

In club games, Eagles played Merlwood at Sezela. Eagles batted first scoring 176 for 4 with Jacques Cilliers top scoring with an impressive 77 not out.
Merlwood managed only 23 runs all out. Juan van der Berg took 4/7 and TJ Joubert 2/10.
Colts faced PSCC and batted first, posting 94 runs in 20 overs. Bryce Allchin top scored with 31 runs. Taffy Evans (2/18 ) and Sachin Kalkerpersad (2/21) were the pick of the PSCC bowlers.
Despite good bowling by Dingaan Mzekelo (2/21 ) and Chris Stewart (2/23), PSCC won by five wickets.
Sezela batted first against DMCC and posted 95 all out with Christo Walker top scoring with 51 runs. There was impressive bowling by Eric Lohler (2/15) and Wicus Pretorius (3/16).
In reply, DMCC knocked off the runs with Ross Theron ending up on 49*.
In the afternoon games DMCC were victorious over PSCC by seven wickets. PSCC batted first, posting 132 for 5. Kalkapersad brothers Sachin (47) and Prantosh (31) top scored for their team.
Niko Potgieter (2/19) was the pick of the DMCC bowlers and Wicus Pretorius top scored with 47.
Colts beat the Eagles in their encounter due to impressive bowling by Bryce Allchin (2/30 ) and Uzzy Desai (3/27) and batting by Yugeshan Pillay (51*) and Wade Speller Burls (40).
Merlewood forfeited their game against Sezela.
