Fishing Vikings brave the terrible weather
A perfect dorado line should have formed after the bad weather.
WELL, what can one report on after the weekend’s horrendous weather? This weekend was the common venue annual meet for the rock and surf competitive anglers, hosted by the Uvongo Angling Club.
With fishing hours set for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, anglers were faced with conditions that were basically unfishable, yet the diehards that were obviously warmed from the inside with the infamous ‘Old Browns’, produced some decent fish, with bronze bream, small kob and a couple of good brusher making up the majority of the catch. It is believed that a newly-formed club from Durban, namely Vikings, were the overall winners of the competition.
Some good-sized tuna were caught before the bad weather arrived. Hopefully, when the weather settles, these fish will still be around. One positive from this weather is that there should be the perfect dorado line with all the discoloured water that has come down and hopefully the start of good run of these fine eating and fighting fish. They should start any time now.
Last week Thursday, a meeting was held at Ristany’s by the South Coast Charter Association regarding the ramp at the Shelly Beach Ski-boat launch site.
Members from tourism were present and it has been acknowledged by all parties that it is imperative to the South Coast as a whole that the ramp is repaired for the December season. We will keep all interested parties updated through this column.
Sympathies go out to all those that were affected by the weather over the weekend especially the guys at The Pont in Port Edward. The team there has put in such amazing work there over the last couple of months and to see it destroyed in one night must be devastating. Hopefully it will all be ready for December.
