MARGATE CC

GARY Hess, Arthur Orr and Christine Faber won the Shelly Beach SuperSpar mixed trips on a creditable score of 4+28. Well done! Arthur at 80 plus is still a match winner and is the club’s ‘secret weapon’ in the up-coming sevens league. Annette Payne changed her side and still came through victorious ending up runner-up with teammates Mike Berry and Kobus Faber with 4+10. Esta Wenzel, Yvonne van Mentz and Bernie Wenzel won the session prize with 2+5. It was Christina’s day as she also picked up the 50/50 winning number.

Our thoughts and prayers are still with Jean Ford and Louis du Randt. Both are recovering, albeit slowly. We are looking forward to seeing them sitting in the seats for ‘special’ supporters sometime soon.

PORT SHEPSTONE

EDDIE Fann will be representing South Africa in the senior side in a test match against Namibia and is wished the best of luck.

Thanks are extended to Jimmy Holtshausen, Jesse Verster, Trevor Green, Barry Delvin, Eddie Fann, Kevin Lancaster and Bernie Sinclair for the extensive work they did in improving the ‘A’ green.

THE BELL

LUKE Pohl, Willy Esterhuizen, Johannie Theron and Michele Vermeulen 0won the Fruit and Veg City mixed fours and the session prize went to Louw Vermeulen, Charmaine van Deventer with Tony and Cynthia Korb. The spider, raising R400 for breast cancer, was won by Gary Le Brasse.

The Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips was won by Gary Le Brasse, Rita Dommett and Willy Knott. Second were June Squires, Anne Hunkin and Tony Botha followed by Duncan and Margie Randall with Desiree Krause.

Due to the inclement weather, the first round of the women’s and mens’ club drawn fours was postponed and will be played tomorrow, Friday, November 1. The second round will take place on Sunday, November 3 at 9am.

Good bowling is wished to all playing in the sevens league.

The next competition will be the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours. (Convenor – Tony Olivant. Catering – Patti Mullen and Penny Hartmann).

Marie and George Pick organised a very successful Caribbean evening. Thanks to all who contributed. The hamper was won by Cecile Gielink.

RIVERSIDE

DENZIL Massyn and Madge Nicolson won the Fruit and Veg City mixed 2-4-2 with 4+31. Runners-up were Rassie Erasmus and Dawn Oehley with 4+21 and the session winners were Gordon Ogilvie and John Gibson with 2+7.

The next sponsored competition will be Cupboard Value Open trips on Wednesday, November 13.

Good bowling is wished to the teams taking part in the KBA sevens league starting on Monday, November 4.

FELICITY van Rensburg and Anne Hunkin won the Abingdon Road Spar women’s 2-4-2 with a score of 4+24 from runners-up Jane Massam and Sandy Shepherd on 4+19. The session prize went to Inger Mitchell and Margie Randal on 2+14.

Keiron Dacey, June Squires, Anne Hunkin and Steve O’Moore won the John Dory’s mixed fours with a score of 4+12 from runners-up Jane Massam, Spike Maritz with Marie and George Pick on 4+10. The session prize went to Eric Grierson, Derick and Jean Celliers with Isabel Prenger on 2+13.

The next competition will be the Harbour View SuperSpar (in house) mixed 2-4-2 tomorrow, Friday, November 1 followed by the South Coast Herald men’s pairs on Tuesday, November 5.

VILLAGE

OLWEN Gibbs and Chris Abram won the Halfway Toyota/Highland Fryer mixed 2-4-2 followed by Roy Baker and Vicki de Beer. Sessions went to Ivan and Hazel Hosken and to Norman Isherwood and Val Kirkbright. Peter Dodd won the 50/50.

Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 was won by Arthur Orr and Bill Eccles followed by Bill Parfitt and Carl Volker. Sessions were won by Basil Redshaw and Henry Fick and by Patrick Kirkbright with Fred van Niekerk. Patrick also won the whisky.

The next competitions are Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips on Tuesday, November 12, Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips on Thursday 14th, Wingnuts Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 on Monday 18th and Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 on Thursday 21st. The winners of last Saturday’s Hyundai drawn mixed trips were Ivan Hosken, Ken Strange and Hazel Barton on a count out from Val Kirkbright, Hugh Holland and Roy Henson. The lucky draw prizes went to Barry Christie, Brian King and Alex Reith.

The Fruit and Veg City in-house tabs in mixed trips will be held this Saturday, November 2.

Members are reminded that there will be a bring and braai, tomorrow, Friday 1st. when the RAC draw will take place. There will be bingo on Friday, November 8.

SOUTHPORT

MEMBERS bid a fond farewell to the club’s longest standing honorary life member, Phyllis Carrick. Phyllis carried out the duties of club treasurer for an astonishing 23 years. Her many friends wish her a healthy and fulfilling life after her decision to move to Johannesburg to be closer to her family.

You will be sorely missed Phyllis.

The bowling green will reopen tomorrow, Friday, November 1 with a two-bowl trips competition starting at 3pm.

Tabs in on Saturday, November 2 is 1.30 for 2pm. Visitors will be made most welcome.

PORT EDWARD

THE exciting news from way down south in Port Edward, is that the green is completely restored and there will be a grand reopening of the season with the Wally Brass Friendship Day on Wednesday, November 13 at 1.30pm for 2pm.

All are welcome. The women are asked to please bring a plate of snacks.

Another highlight in November is the Umtamvuna river cruise on Monday the 25th. Bookings are essential. Meet at the club at 9.30am to travel down in taxis to join the Spellbound Gambler. Afterwards there will be refreshments and a party back at the clubhouse.The cost will be R120 per person. For further information, contact 082 7280251.

Everyone is invited to join the bowlers for a fun filled day.

SOUTHBROOM

AS the club is hosting the KBA sevens league competition on Tuesday, November 5, the green will be closed. Members are, however, asked to come along and support the players.

The Criss Cross Security trips was won by Aubrey Hood, Dan Delaney and Andreas van der Linde from runners-up Ann Bailey, Olwyn Gibbs and Trixie Smith. The first session went to Ina and Corrie Malan with Dirkie Pretorious and the second went to Neville Holmes, Elliot Ngobo and Duncan Biggar.

Happy birthday to Margaret Henery who celebrates tomorrow, Friday 1st.

The Warwick Day will be held on Sunday, November 10 and there will be meat packs available for braai afterwards. The next quiz evening will be on Friday, November 15.

RAINY weather resulted in the cancellation of the planned bowls awareness day last Sunday.

MATTIE Hatting and Robert Moni won the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 played last Friday with 4+22. Riemer van der Wal and Sophia Cronje were runners-up on 4+15. The first session went to Athol Robertson and Ellen Cawker on 2+21 and the second session was won by Ernie and Helen Southward on 2+10.

The next sponsored competitions are the Margate Panelbeaters men’s 2-4-2 today, Friday, November 1 and the Hopden’s Spar women’s 2-4-2 on Friday, November 15. Contact Dave Barber (083 4503272) and Ellen Cawker (082 8019339) respectively.

The annual Jack and Jill’s tournament will be held this Saturday afternoon. Champagne and orange juice will be served and the men are to provide the eats for tea time. There will be a bring and braai at the end of play. All members are encouraged to come along and join in the fun.

The Warwick Day combined with the club’s 75th Anniversary tournament will be held on Tuesday, November 19 with cash prizes and snacks served after the game.

Non-bowlers are welcome to join in the mufti bowls on Sunday mornings.

Everyone is invited to the bingo evening at the club on Monday, November 4. These evenings are always a lot of fun.
